Princess Cruises Confirms New Ship Order with First Delivery Set for 2035
Princess Cruises has announced plans for a new class of cruise ships, confirming a major long term fleet expansion that will extend into the next decade. The cruise line revealed it has ordered three new LNG powered vessels from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2035. The new Voyager Class ships are expected to become the largest ships in the Princess Cruises fleet and represent the next phase of the brand’s cruise ship design and onboard experience.
Princess Orders New Ship Class
Princess Cruises confirmed it has signed agreements with Fincantieri to build three new cruise ships on a next generation platform. The order is part of Carnival Corporation’s broader fleet growth strategy and continues a long standing partnership between the cruise line and the Italian shipbuilder. These new ships will expand the Princess Cruises fleet with larger vessels designed to support global cruise itineraries and growing demand for cruise vacations.
The Voyager Class ships will measure approximately 183,000 gross tons and accommodate around 4,700 guests, making them the highest capacity ships ever built for Princess Cruises.
What Will the Upcoming Ship Class Feature?
According to Princess Cruises, the Voyager Class ships will build on the existing Sphere Class platform while introducing updated ship design elements and new onboard concepts. The vessels are expected to feature reimagined outer decks, redesigned staterooms, and an updated Piazza layout, which remains a central hub across the fleet.
The cruise line stated that the ships will combine its most popular dining venues, entertainment offerings, and onboard experiences with new features aimed at both returning guests and first time cruisers. The ships will also incorporate the latest guest-facing technology, along with dual fuel engines powered primarily by liquefied natural gas, which is currently one of the most widely adopted fuels for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the cruise industry.
Additional details about onboard amenities, entertainment, and dining concepts are expected to be released closer to the ships’ debut.
When Will the Voyager Class Enter Service?
Princess Cruises confirmed that delivery of the first Voyager Class ship is scheduled for late 2035, with the second and third ships expected to follow in 2038 and 2039. All three vessels will be constructed at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
The extended delivery timeline reflects the long term nature of cruise ship construction and aligns with Carnival Corporation’s phased approach to fleet expansion through the 2030s.
